Google Adds AI-Powered Configuration To Search Console Performance Reports

Anyone who has spent time inside Google Search Console’s Performance report knows it can feel like a small puzzle. The data is rich, but getting to the exact slice you want often takes more clicks than expected. Many site owners and those working with an SEO services company end up jumping through the same filter hoops over and over again.

A new experimental update from Google aims to cut out that extra work. Google has introduced an AI-powered configuration feature that allows users to type out what they want in plain language. The system then translates those words into filters, comparisons, and metric selections, no manual setup required. It works a bit like having a helpful assistant who already knows where all the buttons live.

This new AI feature focuses on three core tasks:

1. Automatic Filters

It can create filters for queries, pages, devices, countries, search appearance, or date ranges, instantly narrowing results to the exact slice requested.

2. Easy Comparisons

Custom date comparisons, which usually require careful setup, can now be built with a single request.

3. Smart Metric Selection

It chooses from Clicks, Impressions, Average CTR, and Average Position based on the prompt.

Here are some examples Google shared to show what the feature can do:

  • “Show queries on phone searches that include the word ‘sports’ in the last 6 months.”
  • “Compare traffic for pages that contain ‘/blog’ this quarter with the same quarter last year.”
  • “Show the Average CTR and Average Position for queries in Spain over the past 28 days.”
  • “Show clicks for pages that include the word ‘Google’.”

The goal is simple: spend less time configuring reports and more time making sense of the insights.

Current Limitations

Since the feature is still in early testing, Google notes a few restrictions:

  • It works only on the Search results Performance report, not on Discover or News.
  • Like all AI systems, it can misread requests, so users should double-check the filters it applies.
  • The tool handles configuration only. It does not sort tables, export data, or take actions outside of filters, comparisons, and metrics.

Google is rolling out access gradually, starting with a limited number of sites.

This update reflects Google’s broader push to simplify complex workflows, especially in tools used daily by SEO teams, marketers, and site owners. As more sites gain access, this feature is likely to become a time-saver for anyone who sifts through search data on a regular basis.
