Google released the June 2025 core update on June 30. According to Google, this core update is broad and will roll out over the next several weeks. The company announced, “The rollout may take up to 3 weeks to complete.”
Google also stated:
“Today, we released the June 2025 core update. We’ll update our ranking release history page when the rollout is complete.”
This is the second core update of 2025 and comes just over three months after the March 2025 core update.
Core updates are major changes to Google’s search algorithms and ranking systems, designed to improve the quality of search results. Core updates happen multiple times per year. The purpose of these updates is to ensure that Google continues delivering the most helpful, reliable, and relevant results to searchers.
Unlike targeted updates that address specific issues or types of content, core updates are broad and impact search rankings across industries and site types.
Google explained that core updates don’t single out individual websites or pages. Instead, they re-evaluate content overall to better match what people are searching for today.
For this June 2025 core update, Google has not issued any new, update-specific recommendations. The approach remains the same:
“There’s nothing new or special that creators need to do for this update as long as they’ve been making satisfying content meant for people. For those that might not be ranking as well, we strongly encourage reading our Creating helpful, reliable, people-first content help page.”
There aren’t particular things to do to recover. A negative ranking effect might not indicate anything is amiss with your pages.
In short, if you consistently publish content designed to help and inform your audience, rather than just to rank, you’re on the right track.
Google encourages site owners to use Search Console to compare performance data:
If you notice a drop in rankings or traffic after the June 2025 core update, here’s what Google recommends:
The June 2025 core update impacts rankings across Web, Images, Video, and News, with volatility expected as AI-driven assessments prioritize high-quality, relevant content.
If you make improvements, changes may take several days to several months to be reflected in rankings. Google’s systems need time to reassess your site’s overall quality. If no improvement happens after a few months, the next core update may bring further adjustments.
Google issues core updates a few times a year. Previous rollouts have indicated that their impact can differ; some websites notice instant effects, while others notice slow changes.
After the Google rollout is finished, Google will update its ranking release history to indicate the complete status.
